Feng Shui at Home

What is a Feng Shui Home? (Scientific Point of View)

Feng Shui is a kind of optical application. Nature, the lone source of all power. Divided into day and night and the sun, so that the different hemispheres of the Earth’s thermal condition in different regions differ, resulting in temperature, to form the wind. Light and wind will have an impact on the atmosphere at home, thus affecting people’s mood and health – this is Feng Shui. How to effectively use such light and wind, is a kind of knowledge, it should not be pulling a lot of superstitious things.

For Feng Shui, if the design can take into account the balance then it good. If not balanced, it would only act as designed. I think this is a correct attitude. Feng Shui in the home, is the largest position when it comes to this topic, many people will think of words like Dragon White Tiger, in fact, it involves a geographic issue and nothing too deep a mystery.

1) The azimuth of the sitting direction, associated with the Earth’s magnetic field: we know that the Earth is not a pure circle, while the magnetic field has influence on the human body and blood flow. And thus some formations are harmful to human health.

2) The position of the seat: Also with the sun and the Earth’s angle of the light. Under certain circumstances degrees will also affect the indoor lighting, the psychological impact on people. In fact, some have very vulgar things to say about this scientific view of the Feng Shui argument, all have some validity, mainly those who have high school education, but also with a scientific point of view it is not difficult to analyze the cause. Lets try to use very simple scientific knowledge so that some things can be analyzed.

3) The bed should not be facing the West. It is very obvious, because the earth is eastward turn, this will affect the brain’s blood flow, thus affecting the health of sleep.

4) The pressure should not be the top beam. This is a psychological problem. Head on a beam, it is clear that people would produce a sense of repression.

5) Should not be too close to the windows. In fact, close to the window, there will be two kinds of problems, one is windows with low noise performance than a brick wall. Sleep at night, people heard the noise than far away from the big windows. The other is windows are a light source, light will affect people’s sleep.

6) Mirrors in the bed room. In fact, this is very obvious psychological problems – in the bedroom at night, while watching a mirror, there is always a gloomy feeling that when in the bedroom with lamps, rather than the more obvious when in fluorescent lights.

7) Not facing the door. People are facing the door to sleep, what problems will arise? This involves a psychological sense of a security problem. A question – how hard is it to take a crap with your back to the door? It naturally feels more safe to do it when the door is either in front or beside you.

This is just another of the Feng Shui concepts. In no way is this post intended to contradict any of the other Feng Shui teachings. Some people prefer the old teachings. Having studied them both I’ve come to find that Feng Shui makes sense from either perspective.

Creating a Feng Shui Home Design

Probably the best application of feng shui is the use of the concepts in your home. According to these concepts outlined in feng shui philosophy, this is a big step towards creating healthy lifestyle.

Feng shui can be used to get your house is in order and to ultimately make it a sanctuary where you feel de-stressed and relaxed. Further, it is claimed that it will literally set your life up for greater wealth, happiness, and even romance.

The basics are just that, basic. The primary focus should be on how your house looks and feels upon approach. This includes the outer décor and landscaping, as much as it does the interior.

Let’s go over the main functional areas

Outside

The outside of your home should be set up for a positive chi, as it has many impacts on your health. Some tips include making sure your address is clearly visible from the street and getting rid of any dead brushes, shrubs and flowers. Keeping them there indicates that your wealth will die.
Keep the yard clear from any clutter and trim any overgrown plants throughout the yard. This follows the ideas that a clean and organized area allows you to feel harmony upon entrance to the home.
Light the walkway to your door at night, as it will light the way to your wealth and prosperity for years to come.

Family Room

The family room is where everyone comes together and is considered the heart of the home. Thus, is important to make sure it is comfortable and cheerful. Aim to satisfy the needs of those that may be visiting as well as you own needs in your design. Either way, it should be free of excess clutter, which will allow Chi to flow naturally throughout the room.
Keep plenty of natural light in the room and accentuate that light with a color scheme that reflects your own personality, while promoting a natural positive chi. Don’t use harsh colors or colors that contrast your other decorations and furniture. Soft pastels are always good. Before making a final decision on color, understand their symbolic definitions.

Red = happiness
Yellow = authority
White = purity
Green = longevity
Blue = heavenly blessings

Bedrooms

The master bedroom should be as far away from the front door as possible, for the security of the homeowner. The foot of the bed should not be placed so that the occupant’s feet face a doorway. This is a negative since this is the way the deceased are carried from a room. Part of the bed should always touch a wall because it helps people feel more stable.
As with all rooms, color is important. The color of the bedroom should reflect tranquility and relaxation. One shouldn’t compromise their sleep by using too vibrant of a color. It is also recommended to use lower lighting in your bedroom, which can be accomplished simply by lowering the wattage of your light bulbs.

Dining Room

The dining room should be close to the kitchen and in the corner of a home to promote the gathering of chi. The seating should be set so that everyone can talk to each other easily. Round or octagon tables are the best choice. A round table is said to be good because it symbolizes stability.
When arranging furniture in the dining room ensure that chairs do not restrict doorways. There should be ample space for guests to walk around the table without having to maneuver around chairs or other furniture.
If your dining room has no windows a chandelier or a ceiling fan will assist the flow of Chi. Always use soft even lighting in the dining room as well as soft colors such as shades of green or yellow.

Bathroom

The bathroom represents homeowner’s finances, so it should be set up appropriately. Ideally, the bathroom should not be visible from the front door or to close to the kitchen. It should be clean, well lit, and well ventilated. Proper ventilation allows the negative sha energy to be relieved quickly, allowing the positive chi to remain.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, the placement of the stove and sink are the most important. The stove should be positioned so a person using doesn’t have their back facing a doorway. The chef needs to be able to focus and not be surprised.
The sink represents water, so it should not be side by side with he stove, which represents fire. Typically, a well placed mirror should alleviate any design issues you face.
There should be ample room to work around the sink and stove. They should be kept clean and work well to encourage favorable family finances.
Good lighting and ventilation by the stove will reduce the influence of Sha, as will painting the kitchen white. White symbolizes purity and promotes good health.
Using Feng Shui methods around your home is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Everyone has their own needs, and everyone’s tastes are different. The bottom line for you is to follow the guiding principles and make your designs work.

With a little feng shui, anyone can improve their health and their outlook on life. However, it should be an understood that a healthy diet and regular exercise should also be incorporated into any healthy living resolution.

Create a Feng Shui Home Spa Retreat

You might not have the opportunity to take a full week of silence and rest, but you can still create mini-retreat for a day (or even hours!) in your own home. The idea is to create more “yin” (restful) energy and take refuge from the hyper-”yang” (active) world we live in.

The day before your retreat begins:

• Clear all the clutter and then deep clean your bedroom and master bath with essential oil products such as Mrs. Meyers. Better yet, delegate it and have the whole house cleaned! Make certain there is no clutter underneath your bed (so chi can circulate round you and help refresh you).
• Menu-plan, make a shopping list and stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, juices, smoothies, supplements, detox teas, little spa treats and so on. If doing a cleanse, buy all your necessary herbs (I love the Enzymatic products, personally)
• Put fresh green colored sheets on your bed and clean gold towels in the bathroom to support your healing.
• Surround yourself with beautifully scented, fresh flowers.
• Gather contemplative music, meditation cd’s, and dharma talks as well as sacred texts or poetry you’d like to read.
• Unplug all computers, phones, televisions and have a sabbatical from your cell phone, email, the nightly news and newspapers. Make sure to unplug all electronics in your bedroom.
• Mix up an aromatherapy spritzer using filtered water and sweet orange, neroli or bergamot oils. When you spray it on yourself or in your environment, it will enhance and lift up your chi.

During Your Retreat:

• Drink from pitchers of filtered water with fresh orange slices.
• Create little at-home spa treatments with a reflexology roller; steam inhalations or scented hot cloths with essential oils; herbal foot soaks; body brushing; salt scrubs; facials and so on.
• Take part in tea ceremonies with beautiful pots, cups and teas from Japan, India or China. Try one of the flowering jasmine flower buds that open magically before your eyes!
• Play singing bowls, gongs, tingshaws or bells around your own body and throughout your space.
• Move your body each day with movement practices such as qi gong, yoga, tai chi or free-form dancing.
• Eat your meals (super-healthy ones!) outside in the fresh air.
• Pray at sunrise or beneath the night stars out in the dewy grass.
• Write honestly in your journal about everything in your life that is draining your life force-people, events, situations, things, thoughts and habits. Make a vow after your spa retreat to begin to clear them one by one until you feel free!
• Turn off all the lights at sunset and go by the light of candles or lanterns. Go to sleep early and give your chi deep restoration.
• Create a special altar in your bedroom dedicated to your healing, rejuvenation and spiritual life.
• Be quiet. Meditate. Take naps.
• Adjust your chi with the Inhale/Exhale Breathing Meditation which you can find over at my blog.

And now? Open your calendar and schedule yourself for some deep rejuvenation-a week, a day, half-day-for as long as you can! And don’t forget to make time for the preparations. Enjoy and luxuriate in the Feng Shui of your body, mind and spirit.

Attracting Money Into Your Feng Shui Home

I will discuss how to utilize two Feng Shui cures that will help attract more money into your home and, simultaneously, slow down the amount of money that is flowing out of your home.

In order to achieve this goal, we will take a look at two well known Feng Shui symbols: The Feng Shui frog and the Feng Shui turtle. These symbols have to do with Feng Shui wealth and are associated with the Feng Shui money aspect of your living environment.

Frogs symbolize the leaping effect of money coming into your life and, in this case, your home. Ideally, Feng Shui frogs should be placed outside of your home. A Feng Shui home will usually have frogs located somewhere in front of the house or apartment. I like to place 3 frogs on the front lawn, several feet apart.

The most important aspect to placing these powerful Feng Shui cures and Feng Shui symbols is to make sure the frogs are leaping towards the house. The backs of Feng Shui frogs should face the street and the heads of the frogs should face the front of the house. In addition, one of the three frogs should wind up facing the front door. Simply make sure the third frog has its back to the curb and its head is facing your homes’ front door. The arrangement of the frogs symbolizes Feng Shui wealth leaping in through the front door and into your home. If we decide to add a water feature to our arrangement of frogs, we will multiply the Feng Shui effect and create a very positive and powerful flow of Chi towards the house.

The Feng Shui symbol of the turtle represents the slow moving energy of wealth leaving the household. Since turtles move slowly and frogs leap fast, the connection is easy to make. I know some of you are probably thinking, “Hmm… Maybe I can use frogs and turtles to get my needs met in other areas of my life, such as a Feng Shui relationship or faster or slower Feng Shui sex?” Well…at least I have you thinking about Feng Shui symbols and how they relate to your everyday life. Unfortunately, these particular symbols work best for attracting and maintaining wealth.

O.K. now that I have you back in focus and on the task at hand, let’s discuss how and where to utilize Feng Shui wealth symbol number two: The Turtle.

All turtles should be placed in the rear of the house or apartment. Patios, decks or yards are totally acceptable places for your team of turtles. Try placing three turtles with their backs facing the house. The heads of the turtles should be facing away from the house the eyes should not be looking at the house, deck, patio or yard. Also, if you want to boost the effectiveness of the turtles, paint four small red dots on the back of each turtle. Red is a powerful Feng Shui wealth color.

If you go to a garden shop you will find frogs and turtles that can withstand various weather conditions in your area.

When you plan to renovate or are planning to renovate your home or office areas it is most important to consider that the extensions that you make or are planning to make are in character with your current existing setup. Why change a good thing – why change a horse in the middle of the race. Consistency is everything so to speak. Not only will your home or abode maintain its attractive appearance – it also ensures good Feng Shui.

However, your extensions do not have to have the very same shape and shapes as the existing building to ensure continued good Feng Shui. If it’s up to your fancy to do something quite different make sure that the design is compatible with your existing home, yet with a distinct separation in character. For instance or example, a pointed roof shape (fire) will go quite handily with a flat roof (earth) because fire burns to ash or earth: a flat roof (earth) will go with a curved roof (metal) because earth gives minerals or metal, and so on.

On the other hand, if you were to put a nicely and finely polished roof shape ( fire) against a curved roof shape (metal), then a most destructive order might well be created since fire melts metal and a curved roof ( metal) against a tall rectangular roof (wood) would be most bad Feng Shui practice because metal can chop wood.

As a general guide you can use the “Five Elements” diagram that is a basis of good Feng Shui practice – both as a basis and manual for planning and following through with Feng Shui planning practices as well as the follow through process. This way you can more than ensure that changes in your home follow a most productive as well as enhanced planned sequence. As well consider that when you involve extensions that you may add to your property, to take into account the shape of your site and its surroundings.

One other very valuable current practice, that is most trendy and important at this time, is to be “green”. Use as many recycled materials as possible. It’s not only a case of “waste not, want not”, but good solid environmental and Feng Shui practice as well. Without the care of “mother earth” we are all left alone in this world and in this universe.

Many people these days use recycled materials – whether for reasons of fashion, to help save to environment and if nothing else because it’s economical – a good way to be thrifty and save money on our household improvement and construction renovation projects. Renovations, as we all know, bring about an enhancement to our lives and our abodes – almost a rebirth.

Take care to be aware of the types of recycled materials that you purchase, trade or retrieve as they will end up becoming an integral part and component of your home or office buildings. Old materials may have “left over” qi. Left over qi can carry over and affect the most vital Feng Shui of your home.

If there is one general rule when it comes to using recycled material in your home renovations and construction upgrades it is not to use more than one third secondhand materials when you are building or are involved in renovations.

It can best be said that for structural work – like columns and beams – then it is best to use new material and materials. In hidden places, for example roofs, wall framing and rendered brides then it can be best to use a mixture of old and new. Lastly for plumbing and electrical work always use brand new materials. It’s better to be safe than sorry. It never hurts to err on the side of safety and durability when it comes to home renovations and upgrades.
